


Mission Statement
To create and foster a spirit of understanding among Sri Lankan Muslims in California for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and cooperation here in California and for those in need in Sri Lanka.

SANDARD CONSTITUTION OF THE SLMACT
ARTICLE I
Name, Slogan and Motto
Section 1. NAME. The name of this organization shall be The Sri Lanka Muslim Association of California registered under the California Clubs and Associations Law.
Section 2. SLOGAN. Its slogan shall be: Be forgiving, command what is right and avoid (indulging in the ignorance of) the ignorant. (7:199)
Section 3. MOTTO. Allah loves that when you do something, you do with excellence. (Tibrani)
ARTICLE II
Purposes
The purposes of this Association shall be:
(a) To create and foster a spirit of understanding among Sri Lankan Muslim families living in California.
(b) To promote the principles of Islam in a fast changing environment, within the Sri Lankan Muslim Community living in California.
(c) To take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the Sri Lankan community.
(d) To unite the members in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding.
(e) To provide a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; provided, however, that partisan politics shall not be debated by Association members.
(f) To encourage service-minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward, and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavors
ARTICLE III
Membership
ELIGIBILITY FOR ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP.
Section 1. Subject to the provisions of Article I of the by-laws, any person of legal majority and good moral character and good reputation in his/her community, may be granted membership in this Association. Wherever the male gender or pronoun presently appears in this constitution and by-laws, it shall be interpreted to mean both male and female persons.
ARTICLE IX
Representing the Association at Public Functions
Section 1. All invitations to Public events and functions shall be represented by the President in his absence the Vice-President, and any other member from the Board of Director as the invitation permits. At such events the president or his designated representative may address these events on behalf of the Association.
